A Message from the Race Committee

Aloha Kakou

On behalf of the Hawaiian Airlines Molokai Hoe Committee, we would like to welcome you to the beautiful Hawaiian Islands. We hope that your stay in the islands is memorable in every way imaginable. We further wish each and every crew, paddler, club and supporters our fondest Aloha and Mahalo while you are here.

For our kamaaiana, we also welcome you back once again to this event. All of you combined are what makes our event so successful and the most prestigious canoe race in the world. We look forward to another successful event because of your continued support and cooperation!!

In preparation for the registration process, we kindly remind you to please have your paddlers complete the HCRA Waiver, Molokai Hoe Waiver and Emergency Contact Forms out on the internet via the registration website ahead of time to help expedite the registration process.

Also, when coming to our event registration night, we kindly remind you to bring your HCRA Cards for any Hawaii club registering and for clubs from outside of Hawaii, we ask that you bring a document from your paddling association proving that your club and paddlers are covered by its insurance policy (i.e. Association COI w/ club and paddler’s names). If this cannot be done, there is an alternative to be covered by our HCRA insurance policy. In order to do this, the HCRA Waiver must be signed (paddler, coach, helper etc…) and there is a cost of $15 per person to be covered for this event. Insurance coverage is non-negotiable for this event and if you are in need of insurance coverage for your crew, please let the person helping you at the time of registration.

All Paddlers will be need to be wrist-banded once again this year. Paddlers can be wrist-banded only on Molokai and this can be done at the time of registration. If your team is not coming in until a later time, you may also get wrist-banded at the Coaches Meeting or by arrangements with the Molokai Hoe Committee / Race Director. Any paddler found without a wristband on the water will jeopardize the team’s standing or even be grounds for a disqualification. If your wristband breaks or comes off for some reason, you will need to bring the wristband back with you in order to receive a new wristband. Please be careful with your actions and your wristbands as the supply is not endless.

For those that will not be able to join us on Molokai for the festivities there, we encourage you all to share. There will be live TV coverage (Hawaii Oceanic OC16) as well as live computer internet streaming on our home page beginning at 8:00am.

Parking in the area is for Event Staff, Event Trailers and Guests. Also, if your family, friends and supporters want to come to the event itself at the Finish Line, there will be a huge event tent with TV monitors available for anyone to enjoy the action until the canoe clubs begin to finish at the Hilton Pier itself. Hawaiian Airlines also has a very nice line-up of entertainment for all to enjoy under the tent while we wait for the canoes to finish. Please share this information with any and all paddling supporters.

For your information, the Heli-Pad Area will be zoned off by our event permit to stage and organize event related items and for necessary related storage areas. Please come early as parking is at a premium for this significant event.

The Hawaiian Airlines Molokai Hoe Committee would also like to share some updates with all of you for your information and planning purposes. Please see below for the information concerning the events leading up to race day!!!
